I met Hanna during my travels though China. Lost in Chong Qing and having the worst day trying to find our hostel. After much pain and effort we finally reached our destination, some cheap backpackers place miles away from where we had initially though it was. While checking in to the room I notice a beautiful girl dressed in white linen clothes, she had big eyes and very pretty face. At that moment I really wanted to take her photo and paint her but was very hesitant because she was that pretty. However she came up to us and started to speak in a British accent. She was a very interesting person, she ended up taking us around Chong Qing for the next week which was really fun. I mange to get the courage to take photos only on the very last day.
This portrait is dedicated to Hanna.
I tried to be a bit more ambitious with my second painting, playing with lighting adding a richer color pallet as well as figuring out the formation of fabric, creases and folds.

Reworked the eyes and hair also fixing up other elements in the painting. Am quite happy with my first attempt as I really wanted to see how I go with painting a beautiful face, will consider trying some clothes and more detail for my next painting. I believe the dolls face is the epitome of what man considers a perfect face since they craft it trying to achieve perfection.

The black and white layer has finally dried and I’ve given the whole painting a green tinge and some subtle color variance to the face and limbs.
I’ll probably need to rework the eyes and hair. Not concentrating on correct color or light with this painting, just practicing brush control and slight blending.

Using a tripod to hold up the painting, it seems easier to work on the ground. Keeping subject fairly simple, no clothes or anything detailed, just figuring out how to apply paint to the canvas how I want it. I remember art class 10 years ago having a lot of trouble to make the acrylic flow they way I want it too. I have to get use to working with out a CTRL-Z button.

Okay bought some paints, brushes, and a canvas. I saw an amazing print by Mark Ryden called fur girl the other day, have been out of touch with the whole art world so this is a first knowing of this artist. Fur girl to me is pretty amazing since it made me motivated enough to by a canvas. I previously kept telling myself I could probably paint if I tried. So now I’m putting my money where my mouth is and giving it a go. Well see if the first one turns out.
